The Formula One Race Circuit, Singapore will offer an exciting weekend getaway for Gulf visitors

THREE top-class support races will provide the lead up to the fifth run of the Formula One Singtel Singapore Grand Prix taking place from September 21 – 23 on the Marina Bay Street Circuit. Asia’s only street race on the Formula One calendar will see GP2 and Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli’s debut on the five kilometre long circuit, while Porsche Carrera Cup Asia is back in Singapore in its tenth season.

“Our Gulf visitors will witness a heart-pounding racing spectacle along with first-class musical performances, and we invite them take some time to explore the many local venues that are open late throughout the city,” said Mohamad Hafez Marican, area director for the Middle East and Africa, Singapore Tourism Board.

Adrenaline seekers can continue their night of excitement surfing waves up to three meters high at Singapore’s late night attraction Wavehouse, open until 2am. Another exhilarating attraction is the city’s first and only reverse bungee G MAX, an open air capsule that catapults thrill seekers 60 meters into the air at 200 km per hr.

For tourists wishing to unwind, exotic cuisine and a worldly shopping experience can be enjoyed at Arab Street, a quaint district established in the 19th century by Arab immigrants to Singapore, where most shop houses are open until 3am or later. For the more eccentric at heart, Timber @ Arts House is the hotspot to enjoy original and cover tunes by local budding musicians.

The 2011 Formula One Singtel Singapore Grand Prix was recently crowned ‘Best Sport Event of the Year (International)’ at the Singapore Sports Awards.

Internationally-known acts at this year’s Formula One Singtel Singapore Grand Prix at the Marina Bay Street Circuit include Katy Perry, Maroon 5, Bananarama, The Proclaimers, Pretenders and chart-topping singer-songwriter Noel Gallagher.

“Ticket sales are also proving just how thrilling the races will be this year in Singapore,” added Marican.

More than fifty per cent of the general tickets to Singapore’s fifth instalment of the 2012 Formula One Singtel Singapore Grand Prix night race have been purchased to date while tickets in the Turn 1 Grandstand and Zone 4 Walkabouts are already sold out in addition to Turn 1 Combination package, which enables spectators to view the race from Padang, Bay and Turn 1 Grandstands. Other recently sold out sections include three-day packages for Zone 4 Combination and Bay Combination.
