Goring ‘ideally placed’

The Goring ... London’s oldest luxury hotel

ALTHOUGH The Goring might have shot into limelight as the hotel where Kate Middleton stayed on the eve of her historic wedding to Prince William, the property has a rich and colourful history.

Run for a century by four generations of the Goring family, The Goring is the oldest, privately owned luxury hotel in London. Overlooking its own private gardens, The Goring is perfectly placed next to Buckingham Palace in Belgravia for all the capital’s premier attractions.

Each of the 69 individually designed bedrooms and suites exude English style, from traditional country house and classic British to contemporary.

The best suites are the work of Nina Campbell, Tim Gosling and Russell Sage; the latter using rewoven historic silks from the Gainsborough Silks archive for wall coverings and curtains.

For something a little more informal, The Goring’s lounge, bar and terrace present the perfect backdrop for enjoying sumptuous afternoon tea or a chilled glass of wine after a long day.

Quintessentially English in style and full of character and old school charm, the new Belgravia Suites feature outstandingly beautiful hand-made furniture in birds-eye maple, mahogany and walnut.

The sitting rooms have handsome marble fireplaces and are filled with antiques, objets d’art and wonderfully eccentric Goring touches. Intricate inlays in wardrobe doors, side tables and bed-heads add another layer of quality.

Jeremy Goring, chief executive officer of The Goring says: “These new suites are absolutely right for The Goring. They are all about quality, designed to last and to get better with age.”

The Belgravia Suites are priced from £2,000 ($3,110) per night.

The most glamorous suite in London, The Royal Suite, was unveiled in May 2011 with wonderful English interiors by designer Russell Sage, a collection of antiques gathered from around Britain and a new balcony which runs the entire length of the top floor. The large French windows in the two-bedroom, two-reception room suite open up onto romantic views over The Goring’s private garden and the London rooftops beyond.

This summer, The Royal Suite is being offered at only £4,500 ($7,000) per night.

The economically oriented will find the delightful Queen Rooms cosseting. They are individually designed for warmth and calm using the best British designs from the best British designers. Crisp Italian linens and wonderfully comfortable beds invite you to snuggle up for a great night’s sleep. The Goring is offering them at £420 ($650) per night. The prices are exclusive of VAT and breakfast.
