A patch of green at Radisson Blu

RESPONSIBLE Business has always been a focus point for the team at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai Media City who runs several activities throughout the year to support and raise interest in environmental and community issues. The latest initiative saw members of the engineering team setting up a garden patch on the roof top of the hotel. After several months of looking after the green spot, the team proudly presented a selection of home grown vegetables such as eggplants, green peppers, tomatoes, okra and coriander.

It took a lot of time, patience and dedication but it was well worth it in the end as the associates of the Radisson Blu Hotel, Media City managed to create their own little supply in the heart Dubai Media City – Bon Appetite!

“We strongly believe that Responsible Business is getting more and more important in our day to day life and that small steps will lead to big changes. Our team is always on the look–out for new eco-friendly ideas and activities. The latest initiative, the roof top garden, was a little project spearheaded by associates from the Engineering department,” says Francois Galoisy, general manager of the hotel.

The hotel’s latest activity goes hand in hand with other initiatives, such as the sustainable roundabout and the Green Key certification, a global eco-label for the leisure industry.

In order to gain the Green Key certification, hotels have to fulfill a list of environmental requirements, covering a wide range of criteria; from environmental demands, to demands on policy, availability of action plans, education and communication.

Obtaining the Green Key shows the sense of responsibility an organization has for its surroundings and society and is in line with the Carlson Rezidor Group’s company-wide Responsible Business program which was launched in 2001 and comprises responsibility for guest and employee health & safety, respect for social & ethical issues within the company and reduced environmental impact.

The Carlson Rezidor Group was also the first hotel group to offer guests’ carbon offset possibilities. For its engagement the group has received several awards including the Worldwide Hospitality Award in 2004.
