RAK Airways, a national carrier of the UAE, has marked the expansion of its route network to 11 destinations, with the introduction of flights to Kathmandu, Nepal. Effective February 15th, 2011 RAK Airways will offer three flights a week to Kathmandu.
RAK Airways re-launched operations in 2010 with two routes to Jeddah, KSA and Calicut, India. Since then, the airline has focused on extending its route network across the GCC, Indian sub-continent and North Africa.
RAK Airways CEO Omar Jahameh said, “Kathmandu is a destination that appeals to both leisure and business travellers. The stunning natural scenery and opportunities for trekking and climbing have developed Nepal into a thriving tourism destination. The tourism industry is a key area of focus for the Nepalese government; last year’s dedicated tourism campaign increased visitor numbers by approximately 20 per cent.”
One-way, all-inclusive fares start at Dh499 ($135) to Kathmandu and return fares start from Dh899 ($244). Included in the price of all fares is a full hot meal and beverages served free on-board all flights, along with a baggage allowance of 30kg per passenger in addition to the normal hand baggage allowance. There is also a free shuttle service between other emirates and RAK International Airport for each flight.
