The holiday will cost close to a million dollars

Rooms with a view in first space hotel

For those looking for the ultimate ‘get away from it all’ holiday, Russian company Orbital Technologies plans to build the world’s first space hotel which will orbit around 350 km above the Earth.

The project was first unveiled last year and, in August, the company released further information which suggests the pod will be able to hold up to seven people at a time.

There will be no drinking or smoking on board and the food will not be exactly haute cuisine, consisting of microwave meals prepared on Earth and freeze-dried. But the windows will offer a view that is literally ‘out of this world’.

Developers say hotel guests will be paying around $170,000 for a five-day stay, plus another $800,000 to ride the space shuttle transfer to the hotel and the space station is expected to launch in 2016.
