KYOTO, Japan is continuing its growth in the conference, events and incentive markets with the launch of a new venue.

The Karasuma Convention Hall, located in the heart of the city is near to several leading hotels and offers a variety of spaces for events of all types.

James Kent, Kyoto Convention Bureau’s international marketing manager, said: “The new venue sits in the middle of the city, close to a range of hotels that make it ideal for international events.  It has a 560-person maximum capacity for meetings, with 600 sq m open space. These spaces are supported by five smaller meeting rooms, a couple of which overlook the Rokkakudo Buddhist temple - home to the Ikebana school of flower arrangement since 1486.  As a stand alone venue we also expect it to develop a significant market share within the city’s one-day domestic conference market.”

He added that Kyoto is increasingly becoming an important centre for global events and conferences which has resulted in an increased demand for new venues and supporting hotel infrastructure.

Recently, two international hotel brands, Ritz Carlton and Four Seasons, have announced plans to open new hotels in the ancient capital of Kyoto in the spring of 2014.  The new properties are expected to boost the inflow of high-end tourists, while providing Kyoto with additional options for international events and business summits.

Kyoto is consistently ranked as Japan’s second most popular city for meetings, conferences and events – and is increasingly the number-one choice for company incentive travel.
