FOR travellers who want to stay fit and healthy at the same time as seeing the sights, the latest craze to hit the streets in the Irish capital comes from recently launched tour company Sightjogging Dublin, the brainchild of a group of fitness enthusiasts, which combines a memorable sightseeing experience of Dublin with participants’ regular fitness training. From business travellers to backpackers and weekenders, everyone can enjoy the city’s sights and history with a unique local guided tour incorporating a daily dose of exercise suitable for all fitness levels. A statement said: ‘Sightjogging Dublin is all too aware of the limitations of conventional sightseeing. Bus tours can be dull and a large amount of your time is wasted at stops! Walking tours on the other hand are a little well... pedestrian. In contrast, for more active-minded people, the exercise and local knowledge tips from your friendly Dubliner guide will give you an enhanced and exciting experience of our city. You’ll get insider tips on the best bars and restaurants, the most interesting museums and where’s good from music to comedy venues. ‘No need for maps, no need for guidebooks, just a good pair of running shoes. At the end of your run you will have a good idea of our city and to where you might like to return to explore further.’ Also in Ireland, a new iPhone app has been launched to help visitors make the most of their stay by detailing the nearest top attractions as they travel round the country. The app includes maps, accurate GPS, contact details, entrance prices and an image gallery for each attraction from ancient abbeys and medieval castles to distilleries and family activities. It also includes the unique Heritage Ireland Discount Pass which gives savings worth more than €500 ($719) on admission prices. The discount guide is available in the app store on any iPhone.
