Werdeling for Yas Hotel

The Yas Hotel has announced Heiner Werdeling as general manager. Werdeling has held general manager and senior executive roles with the Hayman Island Resort in Australia, Sheraton Imperial Luxury Collection in Kuala Lumpur and the InterContinental in Abu Dhabi. He recently set up and manages his own hotel consultancy company.

 

 

 

 

Louis to head RAK authority

Ras Al Khaimah Hotels and Tourism Investment and Development Authority has appointed Victor Louis as COO. He joined Hilton Hotels in 2000 and was previously regional director of sales for Hilton Hotels for the Arabian peninsula and the Indian Ocean market, overseeing 18 properties.

 

 

 

 

New appointment at Rosewood

Rosewood Hotels & Resorts has appointed Paul Arnold as vice president of development of the company’s global development team for the Middle East, Africa and Indian Ocean. Arnold joins Rosewood after 12 years with Ernst & Young, five of which were spent in the US.

 

 

 

 

Doha move for Atwa

The new Corp Executive Hotel Doha Suites has welcomed Fathey Atwa as general manager. He formerly held the same position at the Coral Cosmopolitan Hotel Cairo. Prior to joining Hospitality Management Holdings (HMH), he worked in Saudi Arabia, having transferred from Egypt where he had a varied career.

 

 

 

 

Lozano joins Ritz-Carlton Abu Dhabi

Pep Lozano has been appointed as general manager of The Ritz-Carlton Abu Dhabi, Grand Canal, which is due to open at the end of 2011. Prior to this he helmed The Ritz-Carlton, Doha in Qatar.  He began his career in Hotel Arts in Barcelona before moving to The Ritz-Carlton, Washington DC.

 

 

 

 

TDIC appoints new CFO

Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC) has announced Shaun O’Connor as chief financial officer (CFO). O’Connor brings almost 25 years of financial experience to his new role, his most recent employment being with CB Richard Ellis. Prior to this, he had held varied roles with multinational firms such as GE Capital and IBM.

 

 

 

 

Fries joins Fairmont Bab Al Bahr

The Fairmont Bab Al Bahr, Abu Dhabi, has announced Henning Fries as general manager Fairmont Bab Al Bahr and regional vice president, UAE overseeing the UAE portfolio. Fries joined Fairmont in 1987 and has held progressive roles at The Fairmont Empress, The Fairmont Royal York and Fairmont Château Laurier.

 

 

 

 

Qasr Al Sarab welcomes Emery

Nicholas Emery has been appointed general manager of Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara, Abu Dhabi. He joins the group from Fairmont where he spent 12 years managing various properties across the US, Barbados and China.  Before joining Qasr Al Sarab, he was general manager for Raffles L’Ermitage Beverly Hills, Los Angeles.

 

 

 

 

Fouad joins Sonesta Cairo

Sonesta Collection has welcomed Ashraf Michel Fouad as assistant executive manager for Sonesta Hotel, Tower & Casino - Cairo.

With a career spanning more than 25 years, Fouad has a wealth of luxury hospitality experience having worked with Sonesta Hotels, Concorde El Salam Hotels and Radisson Blu Hotels holding several managerial positions.

 

 

 

 

Amin Joins Foras Tourism

Foras Tourism in Dubai has appointed Moataz Amin as its director of sales and marketing. Amin has been working in the hotels and tourism field for the last 24 years and has vast experience in business development with a solid background in e-tourism in various companies across the region.

 

 

 

 

New faces at golf resort

The Westin Abu Dhabi Golf Resort & Spa has appointed Deeksha Trivedi (pictured) as director of sales and marketing. She moves from her previous role as director of sales and marketing at the Sheraton Dubai. The hotel has also welcomed Tariq El Yassouri as PR and communications manager.

 

 

 

 

Kaiser for Mövenpick Doha

Jan Kaiser has been appointed as general manager at the Mövenpick Tower & Suites, Doha, Qatar. He takes up his new role after two years in the same role at Ibn Battuta Gate Hotel in Dubai. He has more than 16 years of hotel experience in China, Egypt, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and the UAE.

 

 

 

 

Appointments at Shangri-La Dubai

The Shangri-La Hotel, Dubai has announced a number of new appointments. Eric Momméjac (pictured) joins as hotel manager from Shangri-La Hotel International Management in Hong Kong and Susanne Stier becomes director of sales and marketing while Natalie Glorney takes charge as director of communications.

 

 

 

 

Pey takes on Oman role

Lufthansa German Airlines and Swiss International Air Lines have appointed Mark Pey as the new country manager for their operations in Oman. Pey was previously the duty station manager for Swiss at Zürich Airport as well as holding various other positions with the airline.

 

 

 

 

Watson joins Al-Futtaim Travel

Al-Futtaim Travel has welcomed Samantha Watson as marketing and sales manager. Watson’s career history includes Emirates Airlines and Etihad Airways where she was responsible for top performing leisure accounts. Prior to joining Al-Futtaim, she was tourism marketing manager for The Dubai Mall.
