ALDAR Properties has announced the selection of the Viceroy Hotel Group to operate the Yas Hotel on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi’s leading leisure and entertainment destination.

Located at the heart of the Yas Marina Circuit, home to the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the hotel welcomed its first guests for the inaugural race in 2009 unveiling its unique design and world class amenities.

Since then it has hosted high-level governmental meetings, awards ceremonies and corporate conferences as well as being recognised as the ‘World’s Best New Hotel’ at the World Travel Awards in 2010.

The Yas Hotel was the last of the eight hotels owned by Aldar which the company still operated and it will be the first hotel managed outside the Americas by the US-based Viceroy, which is 50 per cent owned by Mubadala Development, a strategic investment company owned by the Abu Dhabi Government.

Following a comprehensive selection process against objective criteria, the Viceroy Hotel Group was awarded the operation of the property due to its passion for design and personalised service, its ability to maximise returns whilst maintaining brand identity and its highly experienced team.

Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, deputy CEO and chief commercial officer, Aldar said: “I am delighted to announce the appointment of Viceroy Hotel Group to operate the Yas Hotel. The group’s reputation for delivering returns for owners and operating unique ‘experience’ hotels makes it the perfect fit for this important asset. As the owner of seven hotels on Yas Island, Aldar plays a unique role in capturing synergies and creating economies of scale across these assets for the benefit of both ourselves and our hotel operators. In addition, we continue to coordinate efforts to further increase the attraction of Yas Island as a destination through our operations, marketing and continued development.”
