Soueid...three passions

JW Marriott Dubai has launched a new hotel business positioning entitield ‘Dubai’s Original Luxury’.

Speaking to TTN, general manager, Wael Soueid explained: “We want to offer something different from everything that is new in Dubai, by going back to Dubai’s old style of luxury.”

In order to do so the hotel will emphasise three passion points. Culinary – including fine dining, cooking and fine beverages; culture – relating to world travel, art and music and holistic wellness – taking in fitness, healthy eating and yoga/meditation.

“We want to make the most of our location. JW Marriott Dubai was one of the first few luxurious hotels built in the old part of Dubai 16 years ago. The old part of Dubai is still popular with tourists and so is the hotel which has maintained its reputation for offering luxurious accommodation and excellent service. We focus on authenticity, culinary, culture and wellness and we are the founders of traditional luxury in an extremely modern city,” added Soueid.

The hotel also has plans to undergo a massive restoration programme. “The Mays El-Reem Lebanese restaurant and Bamboo Lagoon completed restoration in February this year and the Piano Lounge has just been fully renovated,” said Soueid.

“We are in the process of designing sample rooms and will begin work in all our rooms by 2011, to be ready mid-2012. Upgrading the product is our main focus now because, while business has been slow, we are confident that it will bounce back and we have to ensure that our product continues to be up to market standards.

“When completed, the hotel will have a classic look with a modern feel. The rooms will be upgraded with flat-screen LED TVs, lighter colours with more lighting giving an airy, fresh feel. We have invested Dh5 million ($1.36 million) in the restaurant restorations and for the rooms another Dh40 million.”
