Damask silk walls adorn the rooms at The Goring

The Goring is easily the preferred address for anyone looking for a quintessentially English hotel in the heart of London

The oldest privately owned luxury hotel in London, The Goring, overlooks the tranquility of its own private gardens, impeccably situated next to the Buckingham Palace and spells out the rich and colourful history of Britain in each and every one of its 69 individually designed bedrooms and suites.

The Goring is London’s quintessentially family owned English hotel, the very last grand hotel of the Edwardian era to be built, completed in 1910.

The luxury property might have shot into limelight last year as the hotel where Kate Middleton stayed on the eve of her historic wedding to Prince William, but it is steeped in tradition and history.

The best suites are the work of Nina Campbell, Tim Gosling and Russell Sage; the latter using rewoven historic silks from the Gainsborough Silks archive for wall coverings and curtains.

The Nina Campbell Suite offers the most contemporary drawing room leading to a wonderfully conceived bedroom with cream silks and 1940’s style wallpapers. The bathroom is simply divine with a generously proportioned walk-in shower and a silvered slipper bath.

Lit elegantly by Swarovski chandeliers, the dining room, which features interiors designed by David Linley, thrives on an award-winning reputation for delivering the very best traditional English dishes served with a modern twist.

Full of character and British old school charm, The Goring’s new Belgravia Suites feature outstandingly beautiful hand-made furniture in birds-eye maple, mahogany and walnut.

The sitting rooms have handsome marble fireplaces and are filled with antiques, objets d’art and wonderfully eccentric Goring touches. Intricate inlays in wardrobe doors, side tables and bed-heads add another layer of quality.

Traditional elements at the hotel include a horse-drawn carriages

The first-class British craftsmanship and attention vested in the smallest of details place the newly opened Belgravia Suites in a league of their own.

“These new suites are absolutely right for The Goring. They are all about quality, designed to last and to get better with age,” says chief executive officer Jeremy Goring.

“They don’t feel like hotel rooms, they feel very personal, like the private home of some 19th century duke, but with brilliant mod cons and a bit of naughtiness.”

The Goring recently unveiled three sparklingly new, glamorous silk suites – all quintessentially English in style, full of character and traditional elements. The star feature of each suite is the beautifully rewoven historic silk on the walls.

Each suite is a jewel in The Goring’s impressive portfolio. The yellow of Suite 34 harks back to the famous Colefax and Fowler designs of the 1950s, epitomising British decadence and style.

The turquoise and whites of Suite 54 pay homage to the Chinoiserie of the beautifully restored 1882 Victorian manor Clayton House, whilst the rich and elegant plum tones of Suite 74 create a feeling of warmth and luxury.

Fittingly, The Goring will include chauffeur driven airport transfers, and a bottle of Dom Perignon Champagne on arrival and for every subsequent evening.

Over the past five years The Goring has engaged some of the top British interior designers to add glamour, sophistication and luxury to all of them whilst retaining the feeling of a home from home.

Every bedroom is individually designed using a range of wonderful colour palettes.

A third of the rooms overlook The Goring’s private garden giving that extra dimension of space beyond the window – a true luxury in a capital city like London.  The remainder nestle quietly over the delightful Victoria Square and the quiet Beeston Place.

Each bathroom boasts the largest of heavy Egyptian cotton bath sheets and an array of toiletries from the top English perfumer Molton Brown.

The Goring offers the Delightful Family Accommodation with the privacy and comfort of individual bedrooms and bathrooms for four guests.

Styled in The Goring’s classic English country house manner, these inter-connecting rooms allow a family or friends to enjoy the luxuries of the hotel, while providing the most practical of accommodations.

Two of the Junior Suites offer the guests a separate sitting room and bedroom, allowing privacy as well as room to work or entertain. These suites overlook Victoria Square.

Even the children are pampered in style at The Goring. From the moment they arrive, with a gift bag on their pillow, a private garden to run in, a visit to the kitchens, filling their Goring Passport, to choosing a story from The Goring Bedtime Story Library, every child will love everything about their stay.

The most glamorous suite in London, The Royal Suite, was unveiled last year with wonderful English interiors by designer Russell Sage, a collection of antiques gathered from around Britain and a new balcony which runs the entire length of the top floor.

The large French windows in the two-bedroom, two-reception room suite open up onto romantic views over The Goring’s private garden and the London rooftops beyond.

The Garden Bar at The Goring is a destination in its own right, sumptuously designed by Gosling, offering an extensive cocktail list. Light meals are served throughout the day in the lounge, including the finest of English traditional afternoon teas.

The Lounge Bar has exclusive access to the very private Goring Gardens – a tranquil retreat from the demands of the city, surrounded and protected by the hotel and private houses. More informal, the lounge presents the perfect backdrop for enjoying sumptuous afternoon tea or a chilled glass of wine after a long day.

Accommodation at The Goring includes complimentary membership at Victoria’s LA Fitness Club, three minutes’ walk away, providing swimming pool, sauna, and state-of-the-art gymnasium.

For a grand marquee wedding in the garden, a high level board meeting, or an intimate dinner party for six, The Goring offers rooms to host up to 250 guests.
