The Carlton Hotel opens the largest and most luxurious penthouse in St Moritz

Sitting at an altitude of 1,850 m, the radiant blue of the sky meets the sparkling white of the snow-clad Engadine mountain peaks. That’s St Moritz on one of the 322 sunny days it enjoys every year.

Perched above the sophisticated holiday resort, the Carlton Hotel captivates your senses with its extravagant palette of colours. Behind the unpretentious facade, the five-star hotel, built in 1913 and totally refurbished in 2007, exudes its own unique, unconventional character that is a colourful mix of modern and tradition.

Designed by Swiss interior designer Carlo Rampazzi, whose style combines antique furniture with striking shapes and colours as well as high-quality fabrics and materials.

Guests can enjoy an impressive view across Lake St Moritz and the Engadine mountains from each of its 60 suites and junior suites. This winter, The Carlton St Moritz, adds another luxury addition to its gleaming beauty and location with the addition of The Carlton Penthouse. The Penthouse will open for the winter season on December 14, 2012.

Like the rest of the hotel this exciting new suite has also been designed and furnished by Carlo Rampazzi and occupying 368 sq m, holds the unique title of largest penthouse in the alpine village.

Located on the eighth floor it features three bedrooms, a lounge area and a kitchen. Guests can also enjoy five terraces which offer 360 degree views of the high alpine valley.

Although large in size, the space has been designed to be welcoming and homely with a historic open fire place and panoramic glass façade which enables visitors to get a full view of the frozen lakes of St Moritz.

With its open plan design and spacious dining room, the architecture of the suite allows guests to entertain and to make this a success, the kitchen teams from the hotel are on hand to serve exquisite private cuisine upon request.

Guests can also avail themselves with the hotel’s super-efficient private butler service.

Outside of the suite, guests have full access to the rest of the luxurious après ski services that the property has to offer. The services include a state of the art spa and a choice of three restaurants – the all-day dining at Restaurant Romanoff, Tschine serving flavoured Mediterranean specialities and the Carlton Bar and Lobby, with a beautiful terrace which is the perfect location for an après ski aperitif.

Wellness for body, mind and soul is offered by the Carlton Spa with its 1,200 sq m of luxuriously appointed Spa. The jewels in the crown are the swimming pool, the saunas and steam baths as well as the outdoor pool with its magnificent view. Private Spa suites are also available for a revitalising treatment using exclusive skin care products from Sensai and Comfort Zone.

The Carlton St Moritz is well known for its wide array of celebrity visitors including Michael Schumacher, Naomi Campbell, Gwyneth Paltrow and King Juan Carlos of Spain and has 60 rooms, all suites and all facing Lake St Moritz, which, when sufficiently frozen, is almost as much a focus for winter sports as the mountains.

In February, the lake reverberates during the White Turf festival of horseracing, an event that dates back to 1907, and then to the sound of bat and ball, during the St Moritz ice cricket tournament later in the year.

The Carlton Penthouse is available from $19,413 and accommodates up to six guests. The price includes the breakfast buffet, The Carlton dinner at Romanoff Restaurant, complimentary use of the spa, private butler service, drinks from the mini bar, free wi-fi access and a shuttle service to and from the airport.
