The ancient city of Troy, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Türkiye's North Aegean region, remains an important archaeological and cultural site.
Known through Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, Troy has influenced
literature, history and archaeology for centuries.
Located near Çanakkale, Troy is part of a region that also
includes Gallipoli's World War I battlefields, Mount Ida, Assos, Bozcaada and
Gökçeada, offering visitors a mix of historical and natural attractions.
Situated in Tevfikiye village, the archaeological site
contains more than 5,000 years of continuous settlement across ten identified
layers, dating from the Early Bronze Age to the Eastern Roman period.
Key features include ancient city walls, stone streets, a
wooden Trojan Horse at the entrance and connections to the legend of Aeneas,
whose journey is associated with the origins of Rome in classical tradition.
The nearby Troy Museum displays artefacts recovered from the
site and presents the history of the ancient city through permanent
exhibitions.
Troy is accessible from İstanbul by daily flights to
Çanakkale or by road.
The surrounding region offers a range of accommodation,
local food products such as Ezine cheese and olive oil, and seafood from the
Dardanelles, providing additional options for visitors exploring the area. -TTN
