Hands-on cultural experiences in Japan’s Tokai region

Share

The Tokai region of Japan—covering Shizuoka, Aichi, and Mie prefectures—offers hands-on cultural experiences.

In Shizuoka, visitors can explore Asahina’s Gyokuro tea through MatchaSho calligraphy, which uses matcha instead of ink.

Guided by calligrapher Shoran, participants learn brush techniques and enjoy premium tea, combining skill practice with a quiet, mindful experience.

In Aichi, the Suzuki Violin workshop in Ōbu City allows visitors to see traditional violin-making.

Participants tour the workshop, learn about production methods, and try tasks such as varnishing a violin bridge. The workshop also displays a letter from Albert Einstein, linking the craft to historical context.

Mie’s Shima area provides access to Japan’s pearl industry. Visitors tour pearl farms, collect pearls, and create custom jewellery, learning the steps involved in cultivation.

The programme shows the skill and patience needed to produce each pearl.

TIAD, Autograph Collection in Nagoya offers central, modern accommodations with suites, optional butler service, and a small Japanese restaurant, SHUHARI.

Tokai allows travellers to experience local culture, craft, and seasonal scenery at a relaxed pace, providing practical, interactive activities in tea, music, and pearl production. -TradeArabia News Service
