YAS Island just offshore from the UAE capital Abu Dhabi, is one of the many projects being developed by Aldar Properties.
With construction well on its way since 2007, the island will play host to attractions including a Formula 1 world class motor sports circuit which will host the Formula One Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix from October 30 to November 1 this year, the final race of the season.
In addition, signature hotels, an adventure water park, golf courses, residential apartments, villas, several distinct marinas, and much more are to be built on a total land area of 25 sq km, with approximately 17 sq km used for development. Yas Island is expected to cater to the local resident population as well as international tourists.
Among the top attractions will be the world’s first Ferrari indoor theme park. The roof is designed on the classic double curve body shell of the Ferrari F1 car and will cover 20 hectares (200,000 sq m). The park will feature 24 attractions complemented with many food and beverage outlets and other features.
Also on offer will be the region’s first Warner Bros theme park, hotels offering over 2,000 guest rooms (including the Yas Hotel flagship project), and a huge regional mall.
A public transport system will be established and a new 10 lane highway connecting Yas Island to both Abu Dhabi and Dubai is being installed.
A links golf course designed by Kyle Phillips, is currently being developed on the west shores of Yas Island.
