Human power takes to Parisian streets

VELIB’ – a self service bicycle hire system available on the streets of Paris 24 hours a day, seven days a week - has been going strong for more than a year, and recently improvements have been made to the service.
Multi pick up and drop off location allows visitors to pick up a bike from one service point and drop off to another. The Vélib’ service now has 750 stations and more than 10,000 bikes. Within the first two weeks of operation, Vélib’ was used 883,657 times, 328,672 daily and weekly tickets were purchased and 31,647 people signed up for annual memberships.
One year later, 3,683,714 one day tickets have been purchased, 277,193 weekly tickets have been purchased and the number of memberships has multiplied by nearly 6.5 with more than 198,913 registered members.
The service counts on average 70,000 daily rentals, and on good days, it sometimes surpasses 110,000 users. Total number of users of Vélib’ has now amassed more than 26 million rentals.
New features include the chance for users to win 15 free minutes when they return the bike at a station marked Bonus V’+ “. This fall, there will be even more updates, included an even more reinforced bicycle.  For more information, visit www.en.velib.paris.fr
