Emirates Airline recently introduced a daily flight between Dubai and Houston, a necessary move as during its first two months of service out of Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) the airline experienced a high percentage of occupied seats on its three times a week service, according to a press statement.
“As predicted, the Emirates non-stop service between Dubai and Houston has been popular among business and leisure travellers alike,” said Ghaith Al Ghaith, Emirates executive vice president, Commercial Operations Worldwide.
Houston is Emirates’ second US gateway, offering business and leisure travellers the fastest link between the UAE and Texas with a 17 hour flight from Dubai to Houston and a return of approximately 15 hours. The route follows on the success of Emirates’ first destination in the US to New York, which has been operating since 2004.
Axel Kaus managing director of Germany based Kaus Media Services, who are the official representatives for the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau in the UAE and Europe, said, “The City of Houston and the State of Texas are delighted about the new nonstop flight between Dubai and Houston offered by Emirates. We are sure that this flight will be instrumental in conducting valuable new business between corporations in the two powerful and global business centres of Dubai and Houston.”
Being the fourth largest city in the USA with one of the global centres for the energy industry, medical and biochemical sectors as well as other vibrant economies, Houston has much to offer the tourist, business person and sufferers of poor health.
The Texas Medical Center (TMC) with 46 member institutions is the largest medical complex in the world. It includes 13 renowned hospitals and two specialty institutions, two medical schools, four nursing schools and schools of dentistry, public health, pharmacy and virtually all health related careers.
In 2007, approximately 5.5 million patient visits were made to the TMC. Among the institutions here are the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Centre, the Texas Children's Hospital and Texas Heart Institute at St Luke's Episcopal Hospital.
