Spain welcomes vaccinated travellers

Share

All vaccinated travellers – regardless of country of origin – have been welcome in Spain from June 7 provided visitors are fully vaccinated at least 14 days before their trip with either an EMA- or WHO-approved vaccine (which includes Sinopharm). Unvaccinated minors in the same family unit may enter with a negative PCR test (children under 6 years of age do not need to be tested). The vaccination certificate or PCR of minors must be provided on arrival.

Spain has very good connectivity from the GCC with 18 flights to Madrid and Barcelona on Emirates and Etihad combined, 17 flights from Doha to Madrid and Barcelona on Qatar Airways and 4 flights to Madrid from Saudi Arabia. Gulf Air, the national carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain, will resume direct flights to Malaga in Spain this summer as it expands its list of boutique seaside destinations in Europe for the season with two weekly flights starting from June 30 until August 29.

Spain hopes to see an increase of more than 50 per cent in tourist numbers this this year, than those visited in 2019, according to Daniel Rosado, Director of the Spanish Tourism for the Gulf countries.

For those who are looking to discover a new part of Spain, the North of Spain – nicknamed Green Spain – promises a whole different adventure from gastronomic delights to breathtaking scenery and dramatic landscapes full of dense forests, lush, evergreen meadows, and the majesty of rugged mountains, contrasting with the intimate charm of southern Andalusian coastal towns, fishing ports and picturesque beaches. More than 40 restaurants have a Michelin Star in Green Spain with the highest concentration located in the Basque Country. If you are looking for a few days rest by the sea, southern Spain has so much to offer in Andalusia. Its coast, bathed by the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, is famous for its miles long beaches boasting all types of services, pretty villages with white-washed houses and thousands of cultural options and entertainment for disconnecting. Spain also offers plenty for city travellers and those interested in island hopping.

As per the Spanish Ministry of Health, which deals with the health measures to be implemented and concerning the travellers arriving in Spain, it is mandatory for prospective travellers to know the following, Rosado tells us. “All passengers arriving in Spain, be it by air or by sea, will undergo a health check carried out by Spanish authorities before entering the country. These controls may include a temperature check as well as a documentary and a visual assessment of passengers’ condition. Before initiating the travel to Spain all passengers originating from any airport or port must complete a public health form, which can be done online at www.spth.gob.es or through a free application: SPAIN TRAVEL HEALTH-sp TH. Once the form is filled-in, the person concerned will receive a QR code, which they will have to show upon arrival in Spain.”

Spain has unveiled a new tool on safe travel to help travellers understand all measures and requirements to travel to Spain. For more info on travel safe: https://travelsafe.spain.info/en/

Those travellers who have existing Schengen visas will be accepted into the country but if travellers need a new visa, it will have to be obtained via BLS application centres in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Onward journey from Spain within EU is also possible via land or air provided travellers have a valid Schengen visa and have been fully vaccinated with both dozes of approved vaccines and fulfil all requirements/check lists specified by the respective countries to cross borders.

Spain will adopt the EU's digital Covid certificate on July 1, facilitating mobility within the bloc. The main benefits of the Green Digital Certificate are its simplicity and interoperability for the entire European Union, as well as the fact it is free and universal. By means of a QR code, it will provide information on whether the person traveling is vaccinated, has contracted the disease, or has a negative PCR test result.
