Fujairah unveils 2025 airport expansion

The federal government has announced a multimillion dollar programme for Fujairah International Airport (FIA)’s new master plan for 2025, TTN has learnt in an exclusive interview.

“The programme includes construction of a new ATC Tower, parallel runway, existing runway expansion to accommodate A380s, 40MVA 33KV substation, eight connecting taxiways including rapid exit taxiways and one parallel taxiway,” says Charles G. Hajdu, FIA acting general manager. “It also includes modernising the airport infrastructure to provide world-class services that meet the demand over the coming years.”

FIA is unique in being the only airport strategically situated on the east coast of the UAE. With the population of Fujairah growing rapidly and with the development of Al Hilal City and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed City, the airport will almost be the middle of the city. The airport’s location also means better, more reliable weather conditions all year around.

FIA has an Open Skies policy that allows airlines from any country to fly to and from the airport subject to UAE General Civil Aviation Authority regulation.

FIA has a strong focus on aircraft maintenance with maintenance repair operations (MRO) lining up to take advantage of favourable rates. FIA has multiple areas available for any size maintenance operations. Additional MRO hangars are under construction to provide overhaul repair for the aircrafts in the coming future which includes five wide body aircraft hangars and one 200x50m hangar for aircraft parking.
