Sheikh Ahmed cuts the ribbon in the presence of Oberoi

JUST weeks after being chosen as the best hotel brand in the world by readers of Travel + Leisure, The Oberoi Group celebrated the inauguration of its first property in the UAE in Business Bay, Dubai, last month.

Executive chairman of The Oberoi Group, P R S Oberoi, said: “The Oberoi, Dubai is The Oberoi Group’s first property in the UAE so this occasion of the inauguration of the hotel represents a significant milestone for the company and for me personally.”

The five-star luxury hotel, The Oberoi, Dubai, in Business Bay, was inaugurated on November 4 by Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, president of the Department of Civil Aviation, CEO and chairman of The Emirates Group and chairman of Dubai World.

The Oberoi, Dubai opened in June this year and is one of the first hotels in Dubai to be awarded an ‘A’ grade by the Dubai Municipality within the first six months of opening. Dubai-based Aujan Group Holding is the owner and developer of The Oberoi, Dubai.

Oberoi said: “I first came to Dubai in 1972 first when there were just a few buildings on the creek. Since then I have been here several times and have seen what’s happened here, the growth and potential of this market.

The Oberoi, Dubai ... UAE debut

“When the hotel opened in June we promised that it heralded a new era of luxury in the UAE.  I believe that we have delivered on this promise with a team that offers the exceptionally attentive, consistent and warm personalised service for which The Oberoi Group is known worldwide.”

The Oberoi, Dubai overlooks the iconic Burj Khalifa and all of the spacious 252 luxury rooms and suites feature floor to ceiling windows. Every guest has access to a personal butler and Les Clefs d’Or concierge services in keeping with The Oberoi Group’s ethos of ‘service without compromise’.

It is already ranked number seven out of all the hotels in Dubai on TripAdvisor, testament to the positive response from guests since the opening.

Oberoi commented: “Many of our hotels have been recognised, the year they opened, as the best in the world. It is easier to get to the top than to stay on top.”

The Oberoi Group is looking at expanding within the region and is already in discussions with investors and partners. The group will manage and operate a Dh4 billion ($1.1bn) luxury resort in Ajman. Al Zorah Resort the first luxury resort in the Emirate will feature 113 guestrooms and suites. The hotel will span 100,000 sq m with 290m of beachfront.
