Old icon turns new favourite

HAVING scheduled a business trip to Bahrain, I jumped at the chance to try out the all new  InterContinental Regency Hotel which was recently relaunched following  a multi-million-dollar refurbishment – and I was not disappointed.

Having lived in Bahrain, the InterCon was a familiar icon and, arriving to see the new façade, it was almost like entering a completely different hotel, but still with the feeling of somewhere that I have known for years.

The updated lobby is very different but more in line with modern times with its contemporary design.

I arrived a little before check-in time which did not cause a problem and check-in was smooth and efficient even though I hadn’t opted to send through my  passport and credit card details in advance, which I understand can help speed up this process.

I spent time in the very spacious and well-equipped room checking emails and planning the following day’s meetings and the large, comfortable bed was welcome and very hard to get out of in the morning but  the rain shower helped get me moving!

At breakfast, the waitress inquired on my preference from the egg station and saved having to go up myself, which was a nice touch, and the buffet had just about anything one would want.

My gym shoes, which I pack religiously every trip, actually came out of the case this time too and I found the Regency Heath Club equipped with the state-of-the- art machines I am used to at my own club.

There are plenty of food and beverage outlets to choose from as well and I  tried Legendz Steak House where I tried some delicious fish but, was told by friends, had ‘the best’ steaks. The new jazz club  Downtown has a nice relaxing atmosphere to meet friends and wind down after a busy day. Though the menu is  limited, there is something for everyone, from snacks, to full meals and with happy hour, the 50 per cent discount made extremely good value for money.

All in all, a very pleasant stay and a welcoming home away from home and, with its central location, offers easy access to all areas of Bahrain.
