A NEW airline has been launched in Jordan aiming to serve both the inbound and outbound markets on a charter basis for its first year.
Five years in the planning, Petra Airlines took delivery of its first two A320s in November 2010 and plans to grow into a scheduled low-cost carrier over the next 12 months covering not just Jordan but the wider Mena region.
CEO Riad Khashman said: “Petra Airlines is committed to providing a superior technology solution for the aviation industry and seizes the opportunity that Jordanian heritage presents to provide international standard services, to guarantee tourists’ satisfaction, safety and luxury at a reasonable price.”
He added that the airline employs a team of 62 well-trained, experienced and qualified staff and crew who will offer the best in Jordanian hospitality.
“As the newest airline in the country, we have prepared ourselves to play an active role in the travel and tourism field, shaping the sector and ensuring that the future of the industry in the region will fit our capabilities,” he said.
Petra Airlines was founded in 2005 by a team of businessmen and industry veterans with extensive travel and aviation experience and started its operations early 2011.
It is part of Rum Group, which also includes Rum Trans, Rum Hotels and Rum Tours, and was created in line with the group’s strategic guidelines which promote the delivery of integrated comprehensive services in the field of travel and tourism and with a long-term vision that takes into consideration Jordan’s gateway possibilities and its potential for attracting a great deal of tourism business.
