TURKISH Airlines has increased its capacity in line with its growth strategy for 2010 and the year end saw passenger numbers up by 16 per cent to 29 million.
As a result passenger load factor for the year also grew by 2.8 points on 2009 to 73.7 per cent and cargo and mail carried was up by 32 per cent.
Available seat kilometre (ASK) increased by 15 per cent and the figure for revenue passenger kilometre (RPK) grew by 20 per cent.
Sales revenue also increased by 23 per cent to $5.6 billion with approximately 81 per cent of scheduled service revenue coming from international services and 19 per cent was from domestic routes.
According to the reported 2010 financial statements Turkish Airlines’ operating profit and net profit stood at $307 million and $191 million respectively.
Turkish Airlines, being an important player in the aviation sector, has increased its capacity with the wide-body aircraft which began to join the fleet in the last quarter of 2010. It is expected to reach its targeted number of passengers and unit revenue with the new business class concept Comfort Class product in the wide-body aircraft and through expanding its network by opening new routes.
And as it reported the latest figures a spokesman said the company was taking all necessary steps to minimise the negative effects of uprisings in neighbouring countries.
