THE Avex International Airshow 2010 took place in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, at the beginning of November with more than 70 local and international aviation companies participating.
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak opened the four-day event, which is organised by the Egyptian Air Aviation Ministry every two years.
This year’s edition attracted some 74 exhibitors including Boeing and Airbus.
Manufacturers displayed 35 types of aircraft including the much-anticipated first North African landing of the Airbus A380.
World-leading manufactures in the field of small to mid-sized aircraft, such as Bombardier, Embraer, Gulfstream, Cessna, Dassault and Bell Helicopter, all displayed their featured products and Bahrain’s Gulf Air brought along one of its new Embraer jets.
The latest aviation technology, services and equipment were also on show and, for the first time, Avex hosted the Custom Jet Show and Awards which offers manufacturers the chance to showcase customised aircraft and honours outstanding achievement in fields such as interior design.
Bringing together key international aviation businesses and buyers, Avex focuses on the Mena region’s rapidly expanding aviation sector promoting business expansion and cross-border partnerships.
Event director Nic Watson was positive about the show’s outcome saying: “Despite the challenges the aviation industry has faced over the past few years, Avex has managed to weather this downturn and has established strong credibility amongst the aviation community’s leaders.”
