Assawan Spa offers a holistic approach to health and beauty.

Inspired by the magnificent ruins of Petra in Jordan, the Assawan Spa and Health Club takes full advantage of its spectacular location on the 18th floor of Burj Al Arab in Dubai.

Named after the Assawan granite famous for its healing properties, the spa and health club offers complete seclusion in a lavishly decorated setting.

All the treatments are administered in the quiet, luxurious ambience of the separate men's and ladies treatment rooms. There is a total of 18 rooms, most of which offer relaxing sea views and derive their names from exotic perfumes such as Yasmyna, Meska and Allaylac for the ladies and Assandal, Aludah and Zaefreran for the men.

The spa offers complete privacy in the dedicated women's facility, while designated areas within the male facility, including the Ma'Sama pool and the fitness studio, can be utilised by both male and female guests.

The treatment approach at Assawan is holistic with the emphasis on the total well being of the individual. A full consultation takes place prior to any treatment so that a personalised package can be recommended.

Hand-picked from all over the world, the team of salon and beauty experts offer the best of modern and traditional practices with eastern and western philosophies.

A wide range of Thalgo and La Prairie facial treatments is available to rejuvenate, renew and revitalise the skin. All facials include a cleanse, tone, exfoliation, massage and mask as well as a skin care prescription, to continue facial care at home.

Assawan offers a whole range of thalassotherapy body treatments that are designed to create harmony and balance between body and mind.

The word 'thalassotherapy' is derived from the Greek word thalasso, meaning sea, and therapeia, meaning treatment, and refers to a range of treatments and practices using the healing powers of water and derivatives from the sea, including seaweed and sediments.

"The Thalgo Marine Experience -a hydrotherapy bath followed by a seaweed wrap detoxifies the body and boosts the immune system, restoring a feeling of mental and physical well being," said a spokesman.

"These same marine sediments and seaweeds are used to equally good effect in the Thalgomince Toning Treatment, which soothes away hard deposits of fat and can help to reduce stretch marks.

"The Assawan Spa also offers a Thalgo Toning Body Wrap for Men, which detoxifies the body and improves circulation.

"The Thalgo treatments are complemented by hydrotherapy treatments from Elemis. Strong massage jets harnessing all the benefits of water are used to increase blood circulation, stimulate muscle tone, aid weight loss and reduce tension."

Essential oils form the basis for the Elemis Aromatherapy Body Treatments, which combine active concentrated oils with the therapeutic power of touch.

Guests at Assawan spa can also chose from Swedish, Thai or Shiatsu massage treatments. The spa also offers reflexology treatments, an ancient art practiced by the Chinese, Egyptians and Indians, which is becoming increasingly popular as an effective treatment for a diverse range of illnesses.

In line with its top-to-toe body programme, the Assawan Spa offers a range of treatments for hand and foot care, hair styling and make-up.

A range of Day Packages designed to offer a selection of relaxing and revitalising treatments are specially formulated for Burj Al Arab guests, Club members and members of the public.

The packages, which include the Jet Lag Reviver, the Mother-To-Be, the Detoxify and Tone and the Pre-Wedding package, can be further modified to meet specific requirements.

The Assawan spa also features the impressive Katr Enada and Ma' Sama pools which are accessible from the treatment rooms and adjacent to the sauna, steam rooms and Jacuzzis.

For the more energetic, the club houses a squash court, an aerobics room and two fitness studios featuring the latest TechnoGym Training System (TGS).

Guests also have the option of dining at the Atrium Lounge, which offers a spectacular interior view of the Burj Al Arab atrium, or the Diwania Library - a luxurious retreat on the upper level of the Club.
