Radisson SAS Hotels & Resorts has appointed Pia Heidenmark as its first director, environmental and social affairs.

The Swedish Master of Science will report directly to Kurt Ritter, the group's president and CEO.

"Pia will head a new group initiative - our Responsible Business programme - which will span seven of our key stakeholder groups including employees, customers, owners, shareholders, the environmental community, suppliers and partners as well as public sector state agencies and organisations," said Ritter.

"The programme will focus on operational and social excellence within the scope of innovative responsible business."

Heidenmark joins Radi-sson SAS from Tellus Miljomanagement AB, a Swedish consultancy where she was environmental consultant.

"This appointment, and the creation of a new director-level portfolio, reflect the level of commitment which Radisson SAS affords the environmental sector," said Ritter.

"As a group, we have achieved a great deal in the eco arena since the launch in 1994 of our own 24-point environmental manual. Our property in Brussels has received an international environment award and many other group properties have received regionally based honours or recognitions.
