Jumeirah Glasgow Hotel is destined to be the Jumeirah Group’s fifth hotel to be signed in Europe. Charles Price, CEO of Progress Property Developments (PPD) and Guy Crawford, CEO of Jumeirah Group, announced that the Dubai based luxury hotel group operator  expects the five star property to open in 2011.
Situated in Glasgow’s international financial services district close to the high end shopping district, the 25-storey development was designed by Ian Simpson Architects. Guests have a range of leisure facilities at their disposal including an infinity pool, the group’s signature Talise Wellness spa, gym, rooftop cocktail lounge and several restaurants and bars. Extensive business and conference amenities will be supplemented by a 630 seat ballroom and a dedicated club lounge.
The Jumeirah Glasgow Hotel will comprise 160 luxurious guest rooms and suites and 85 Jumeirah Living serviced apartments to cater for guests planning an extended visit.
During the signing ceremony last month Councilor Steven Purcell, Leader of Glasgow City Council and chair of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau said, “Today’s announcement is a resounding vote of confidence in Glasgow and its future ambitions, made all the sweeter by the fact that Jumeirah does not operate anywhere else in the United Kingdom outside London.”
Charles Price said, “We are very pleased to have Jumeirah join us as a partner in this exciting development. We have already worked closely with Jumeirah over the last few months on the details of our proposed development and we are confident that their involvement will help further ensure the success of this exciting project.”
The Jumeirah Group announced at the Hotel Investment Conference Asia Pacific (HICAP) held last month that it had signed five new hotels, bringing the total number of new properties under development to 19.
This announcement came with the appointment of Jumeirah to manage Jumeirah Bali Resort in Indonesia, Jumeirah Maldives Resort in the South Malé Atoll, Jumeirah Al Salam Resort in Bahrain, Jumeirah Al Salam Yiti Resort in Oman, and Jumeirah Messilah Beach Hotel in Kuwait. The five new hotels and resorts are scheduled to open over the next three years.  This comes in addition to recent announcements of hotels in Guangzhou, Glasgow and St Thomas, US Virgin Islands.
“With the support of our parent company, Dubai Holding, we are well on target to achieve our objective of globalising our luxury brand, and we expect to have 60 properties either in operation or under development by 2012,” said Gerald Lawless executive chairman of the Jumeirah Group.
Jumeirah Bali Resort is being developed by PT Bali Nusa Intan. The luxurious, mixed-use development is situated on the southernmost point of the island, in the prestigious Sawangan area and will include a five star hotel and luxury villas, together totalling 225 rooms and suites. In addition the resort will offer three restaurants and bars, a wedding chapel and a destination spa, managed by Talise Wellness, the Group’s global spa and wellness brand.
Jumeirah Maldives Resort, developed by EoN Resorts Group, will welcome its first guests in 2010 and is located in the South Malé Atoll. The resort will be built around the principles of sustainable development, a commitment that will be reflected throughout the project, and will feature 48 beach villas and 43 water villas. Facilities will include four restaurants and bars, a health club and Jumeirah’s signature Talise Wellness spa, as well as a dive centre.
Sama Dubai is developing both Jumeirah Al Salam Resort in Bahrain and Jumeirah Al Salam Yiti Resort in Oman, which are scheduled to open in 2010. Jumeirah Al Salam Resort in Southern Bahrain will consist of a 293-room hotel, seven hotel villas (divisible into 56 guest rooms and 21 suites), 33 spa suites and a large convention centre.
