Dubai airport passenger traffic tops 25 million


PASSENGER throughput at Dubai International Airport has reached 25.4 million between January and September, according to a statement from the airport.

This is a growth of more than 19 per cent over the corresponding period in 2006.
The airport handled some 21.33 million passengers between January and September last year.
August was the busiest month for the airport so far this year with 3,287,894 passengers passing through, while over 3.08 million passengers were recorded in July. Growth-wise too July and August were on top with a comparative growth of 22.22 per cent and 24.27 per cent respectively over the corresponding period in 2006.
During the period under review, Dubai Cargo Village handled a total of 1,133,676 tonnes of cargo as compared to 1,020,581 tonnes in the first nine months of 2007, an increase of 11.08 per cent over the same period in 2006. July was the busiest month for the village. Aircraft movement at Dubai International Airport increased, registering a growth of 9.86 per cent between January and September this year. The airport handled a total of 191,974 flights during the nine months ending September, as against 174,751 flights in the corresponding period last year. July was the busiest period for the airport in terms of aircraft movement with over 21,705 flights, an increase of over 11 per cent compared to July 2006.
“Dubai International Airport has been growing at an average of 15 per cent annually since 2000, and we expect the growth rate to pick up pace and climb further up over the coming years,“ said Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, president of Dubai Department of Civil Aviation and chairman and CEO of Emirates Group.
