A new duty free shop on the UAE's border with Saudi Arabia is expected to open its doors during the upcoming Eid celebrations in December.

The outlet, which is being built by the Abu Dhabi Duty Free (ADDF) at Ghoyfat, will cater to an estimated 2.5 million people who pass between the land border point each year.

The complex has been designed by Abu Dhabi Civil Aviation (DCA). It will feature a 375 sq m retail area selling perfumes, cigarettes, toiletries, chocolates, food, car accessories, electronics, audio/video, household appliances, cameras, mobile phones, jewellery, watches, sports goods, fashions, toys, leather goods and luggage as well as other products such as Arabic souvenirs.

Meanwhile, the third phase of the expansion and renovation programme at Abu Dhabi Duty Free covering the construction of 20 new shops on the upper level is well under way.

The project is being executed in four phases by the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA), with each phase covering the construction of the shell of five shops.

Mean while, interior fitting work for the 20 shops has been put out to tender and the work is expected to be completed within 90 days. All shops are scheduled for opening early next year.

The new units will each measure 25 sq m, but two of the shops - toys and audio/video - will take up two units each or 50 sq m.
