An oasis for mind and body

Wide choice for water sports enthusiasts.

The recently renovated Health and Recreation Center at the Sheraton Doha Hotel and Resort offers "an oasis for the mind and the body", says a hotel spokesperson.

The centre has been given a completely new look with extensive upgrades to the premises as well as the facilities.

The beach, the lagoon and gardens have been extensively upgraded with the bound area extended by 50 metres to protect the sand from being washed away by the tide, the hotel spokesman said.

"New sand was supplied and the stairs leading to the sea were renovated to make access easier for swimmers. In addition, beautification work was conducted adding greenery, palm trees and flowers to the beach and garden area. New beach and pool furniture has also been added.

"The gymnasium was extended towards the sea, spreading over an area of 324 sq m, with full height glazed windows on two sides and mirrors on the other side.

"With the largest Stairmaster facility in the Middle East, the gym and the fitness rooms are equipped with the latest high-tech machines and have parket and mondo floorings.

"A new entrance and reception area has been constructed. There is also a separate aerobics room and an area for billiards/snooker. The changing rooms have also been renovated and upgraded."

The health club also offers a range of massage services including Sports, Shiatsu, Swedish, Reflexology, Aromatherapy, Head and Ayurvedic for both men and women.

The upgrade at the health club is part of a major renovation and expansion programme being carried out by Qatar's first five-star property which has also added three more floors providing 100 rooms and an executive lounge.

Further expansion beginning in December will add 50 upmarket rooms and a new lounge.

Besides the new-look health club and recreation area, the hotel offers an extensive range of sport facilities including four tennis courts, two squash courts, a badminton court, and an outdoor multipurpose court that can be used for basketball, volleyball or football.

Water sports facilities at the hotel include windsurfing, water-skiing, sailing, fishing trips, boat rides and banana boat rides.

Separate facilities are also available for children.

The hotel also offers a range of dining and entertainment outlets including La Veranda overlooking the gardens and the Bay of Doha where new Chef Leonardo Concezzi serves up authentic Italian cuisine; the new Alegria Bar whose name itself means happiness and joy; the open air Pirate's Cove which offers the catch of the day and the swimming pool bar, perfect for a quick snack.

"Although one of the first established clubs in the city, Sheraton Doha Health & Recreation Center is fortunate to have the best location with stunning views on the bay, the city and the beautiful landscaping," says recreation manager Sarah Milburn.
