SHARJAH International Airport achieved a record growth over the past nine months in the number of passengers traveling from the airport, aircraft movements, cargo and shipping handling, a statement said.
Latest statistics issued by the airport indicate that passenger numbers grew to 2.23 million during the January – September period this year from 1.63 million during the same period last year, an increase of 37.21 per cent.
Overall number of flights for the same period increased by 14 per cent, growing from 27,904 flights from January to September 2005 to 31,815 flights in the same period this year.
Statistics indicate that the number of passengers travelling through Sharjah International Airport has increased by 37.21 per cent over the same period of nine months due to the surge in the numbers of transferred passengers which recorded a growth of 164.2 per cent with the number of transferred passengers increasing from 37,771 passengers during the first nine months of 2005 to 99,806 passengers in the same period this year.
The volume of cargo and shipping handling during the first nine months of the current year reached 411,697 tonness, an increase of 17.9 per cent compared with 349,259 tonnes handled during the same period of 2005.
