A survey has been launched among the business community and travel industry leaders to support the government's drive to develop tourism in Bahrain.
The project is being undertaken by the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (BCCI) tourism committee.
The first meeting of the committee decided to make an all-out effort to support the government's tourism promotion drive, said BCCI board member and committee chairman Nabeel Kanoo.
“As part of the effort, we are carrying out a survey to get a proper feedback from the business community,” he said. “Questionnaires have been sent out to business establishments, travel agencies, hotels and other groups to give suggestions to improve the tourism sector. Our committee members have also been asked to give their suggestions.”
The feedback from the committee and the community will be used to draw up an action plan to support the government's tourism promotion drive, said Kanoo.
“We praise the initiative taken by Crown Prince, BDF Commander-in-Chief and Economic Development Board (EDB) chairman Shaikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa in developing tourism as an important segment of Bahrain's economy,” he said.
“We are also optimistic about the new tourism roadmap being prepared by a committee headed by Works and Housing Minister Fahmi Al Jowder. We shall join hands with the government in developing Bahrain as an attractive and respectable tourism destination.”
Kanoo said the committee would encourage the government to ensure a more serious involvement of the business community in improving the country’s tourism infrastructure. “We do not need foreign consultants to show us how to improve this vital sector,” he said.
