Munich Airport is the most modern gateway to Europe

Munich Airport … a small city in itself

With a volume of 26.8 million passengers (+11 percent) in 2004 Munich Airport ranks number eight among major European airports and is considered one of the fastest growing hub airports in Europe.

With connections to 227 destinations in 66 countries during the summer flight schedule 2005, Munich also moves forward as a comfortable transfer hub for passengers from the Gulf region.
Emirates, Qatar Airways and Etihad Airways connect Munich and the Gulf region on a regular basis. Two most modern terminals guarantee stress-free travelling. The friendly and efficient architecture concepts of both terminal buildings as well as clear signs and individual “meet and greet” services make it easy for the passenger to find his way through and out of the airport. Terminal 2, which is a unique joint venture by Munich Airport and Deutsche Lufthansa AG is the first terminal building worldwide that has been specifically tailored to the needs of hub traffic. Monitors at every arrival gate list details of onward connections, which results in an unsurpassed minimum connecting time of 30 minutes in Terminal 2. The minimum connecting time in Terminal 1 is 35 minutes.
But Munich Airport is much more than just an airport – it is a small city in itself.
Go shopping: A shopping mall is located between both terminals, selling everything one needs at downtown prices. Including a large supermarket offering international and Bavarian specialties.
Have a bite: Can you think of any airport that brews its own beer? Munich Airport does. The restaurant ‘Airbräu’ is actually the world’s only airport brewery. Travellers and locals mingle and enjoy freshly brewed Bavarian beer and original Bavarian cuisine in authentic Bavarian atmosphere. During summer time guests even can sit outdoor in the restaurant’s beer garden and watch the airport’s bustling atmosphere. There are no less than 33 restaurants and bars in the entire airport.
Doing business: As an international hub Munich Airport has invested in developing special facilities and services for business travelers and the theory “land, meet and fly”. Thus all facilities and equipment needed for modern business can be found in both Terminal 1 and 2. The terminals are equipped with wireless LAN internet access for personal laptops and notebooks. Internet points are also located in the public areas (Service Centers) of both terminals. The two Service Centres are open 24 hours a day and also offer a deposit service, which allows passengers to leave important documnts in a safe place. Office support such as fax, internet, loading of mobile phones and notebooks etc. is provided by the unique ‘Sony Airport Lounge’ in the Schengen level of Terminal 2 – open to everyone. Business and first class passengers find several modern airside lounges operated by Munich Airport and various airlines.
The Munich Airport Centre (MAC) – located between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 – is an architectural highlight. It was designed by the American star-archictect Helmut Jahn. The distinctive glass and steel roof of the MAC covers an open forum of 3,500 sq m and is an ideal place for all kinds of presenations, exhibitions and cultural events.
Get medical treatments: Munich Airport’s newest and most outstanding facility is the AirportClinic M - Europe’s first airport clinic. The AirportClinic M handles outpatient and inpatient treatment for national and international patients. The two surgery rooms and 13 clinic beds meet most modern medical and technical standards and the international flair of Munich Airport is omnipresent. The idea is to provide fast and high quality medical treatment directly on site at an international transportation hub offering diverse packages for international patients and their families. These individually designed packages can include diagnosis, inpatient or outpatient treatment, surgery, hotel accommodation, transfer to a partner clinic for long-term treatments and sightseeing programs for families or relatives.
