Courtyard by Marriott bags award
KUWAIT: The newly-opened Courtyard by Marriott Hotel in Kuwait has been bagged the Best Opening Hotel award for year 2004.

A landmark in Kuwait’s skyline, the Courtyard has been officially open for one year and is already known to be Kuwait’s brightest hotel. During a ceremony held in Orlando, Florida the country general manager for Marriott Hotels in Kuwait, Thomas Buehner received the award on behalf of his team. “We are so proud to celebrate winning this prestigious award in the first year of the Courtyard opening,” he said.

Chelsea Group makes Dubai foray
DUBAI: A new name in hospitality, the Chelsea Group, is debuting in Dubai this year with the opening of two new properties in the city: the 49-storey futuristic Chelsea Tower located on Sheikh Zayed Road and the Chelsea Hotel in Bur Dubai. The former is a luxury one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments property, which will cater to both long term and short stay guests, while the latter is a four-star luxury hotel. “The two Dubai hotels are visionary additions to our expanding portfolio of hotel properties, and we’re confident they will attract growing numbers of visitors from around the region and Europe,” said Karim Kassam, director of the Chelsea Group.

Mercure Grand Hotel opens
MANAMA: The newly-built Mercure Grand Hotel in the Seef District opened its doors to customers last month. The 17-storey four-star property is part of French hotel giant Accor’s network of 750 hotels in 47 countries. It’s an all-suite hotel, with 72 one-bedroom suites and 48 two-bedroom suites, equipped with kitchenettes, televisions, ensuite or separate bathrooms and a business corner with internet access. There are also smoking and non-smoking floors and suites for disabled guests. Sales and marketing manager Saleh Farajat said the new hotel targets both business travellers and families.

Accolades for Jebel Ali Hotels
DUBAI: In recognition of its continued commitment to sustainable long-term Emiratisation, Jebel Ali International Hotels has received the 2004 Dubai Human Development Award Certificate of Appreciation. Over the past two years Jebel Ali International Hotels has successfully introduced a system to support this objective, and also extended its dedicated Emiratisation department which pursues the promotion and achievement of Emiratisation within the company. The awarded Certificate of Appreciation has confirmed Jebel Ali International Hotels’ Emiratisation programme as an acknowledged model for the hospitality industry. General manager Gerhard Hardick and Ghanim Al Marri, manager, Emiratisation and national employment, were delighted with the news.

Sheraton Deira gets revamped
DUBAI: A strong focus was acknowledged by the Sheraton management and supported by the local owners Mohammed Omar Bin Haider Group leading to a radical refurbishment of the Sheraton Deira Hotel & Towers. A combination of the well-appointed 224 rooms are going through the first phase of recent soft refurbishments in room décor. The major revamping includes fitting new wall-to-wall corridor carpet on all the five floors as well as carpeting the Al Massah ballroom.

Millennium Abu Dhabi goes hi-tech
ABU DHABI: Millennium Hotel Abu Dhabi does not cease to do everything that is beneficial for their guests applying their ‘Yes we can do’ motto. Not surprising then that the hotel has installed the high speed internet in all its rooms. The management of Millennium Hotel has worked to include this service in order for the guests to have everything under one umbrella and the hotel becomes the ideal place for them to both work and enjoy at the same time.

JW Marriott Dubai adds new suites
DUBAI: The JW Marriott Dubai has added seven specially built suites to the existing 35 existing summing up the number of rooms available to 351. All located on the elegant Town Square Wing, the especially-designed suites provide guests luxury on their terms. An office away from the office. A new room type, the Business Suite, has been designed for the business traveller as a fully functioning office away from the office. In addition, three new handsomely-appointed Executive Suites have also been built in the Town Square Wing providing guests comfortable unpretentious luxury.

World Trade Centre comes to Bahrain
MANAMA: Sheraton Bahrain Hotel & Towers is to be part of Kingdom’s newest development underway – the Bahrain World Trade Centre. To be branded and operated as the Bahrain World Trade Centre, completion is planned for summer 2006. The Bahrain World Trade Centre (BWTC) will add prominence to the Manama skyline, reinforcing Bahrain’s commercial strengths and enhancing its’ position as a major commercial hub for trade in the Middle East. The unique design comprising twin 50 floor iconic towers will become the tallest construction in central Manama.
