Oman Air has begun services to Kochi (Cochin) last month, the first foreign airline to fly to the south Indian city.

The airline's general manager, Abdul Rahman Al Busaidy, said the flights would operate on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and a fourth weekly flight on Saturdays would be launched next month.

Kochi is the fourth addition to Oman Air's Indian destinations, he said.

Meanwhile, UAE's Emirates airline said it will begin direct flights to Kochi by September next year following permission granted by Indian authorities.

And the Saudi Arabian Airlines is expected to become the second foreign airline to fly to Kochi, a Qatar newspaper quoted airline sources as saying.
