Munich Airport spreads its wings

IN the one year that Munich Airport’s Terminal 2 has been open, 16.4 passengers have passed through its doors, beginning with more than 50,000 passengers on the first day alone.

About 240,000 aircraft movements have been registered in the past year. One of the strongest contributing factors to the terminal’s smooth operations has been its highly efficient baggage handling system, which processed 10 million pieces of luggage in the past year.
Lufthansa, Star Alliance and their partner airlines, which have exclusive use of Terminal 2, have considerably extended their offer of flights at the new hub over the summer, making for the greatest expansion of services ever in the airline's offering of flights, with a weekly selection of 2,300 weekly departures to 96 destinations in 36 countries. Travellers to European destinations also have a greater choice of flights with Lufthansa offering more European connections from Munich than Frankfurt.
Lufthansa has also decided to expand the offering to daily daytime departures from Dubai to Munich in the winter schedule, beginning October 28. This follows the success of its thrice-weekly daytime flight and the high demand across the Gulf region. The route will be operated with an Airbus A-343, and will depart Dubai at 7:55am to reach Munich at 12.30pm. The return flight leaves Munich at 9.30pm and reaches Dubai at 5.30am the next morning.
Terminal 2 is also unbeatable in terms of speed, with a minimum connecting time of only 30 minutes, it boasts the fastest passenger transfer time of all large European hubs. For passengers arriving late on connecting flights, the Ramp Direct Service ensures they onward connections on time by picking up passengers and their luggage directly from one plane and rushing them across the ramp to the next flight.  A total of 60,000 customers profited from this service in the last year.
