Indonesia was represented by the Indonesian Culture and Tourism Board, two Provincial Tourist Offices, including those from the capital Jakarta and West Java, as well as thirteen hotels and five travel agencies at the recently concluded ATM. The 21 organisations actively sold Indonesia's multifarious attractions displayed at the Indonesia stand.
This was the third time that Indonesia attended this international contract travel show in the Middle East. Like the rest of the tourism world, Indonesia has not been unaffected by the recent crisis, which has caused a slow down in worldwide travel and tourism activities. Indonesia has yet to recover from its economic crisis and the aftermath of the Bali tragedy that occurred in October 2002. Like the rest of the world, Indonesia is also very much on the alert to prevent the entry of the Sars epidemic into the country. Nonetheless, despite all these setbacks, the Indonesian travel industry is optimistic. Indonesia also believes that tourism can play a pivotal role to foster understanding amongst people, religions and nations of the world.
