The Track at Meydan Golf Club ... encouraging people to give golfing a go

THE Track at Meydan Golf in Dubai, UAE, has recently launched the Troon Family Golf, which allows children 15 and under to play for free when accompanied by a paying adult. This offer also extends to the academy, also run by Troon, where players keen to improve their game can have their technique analysed by a state-of-the-art FlightScope technology and receive tips from some of the best pros in the region.

The Track offers golf during the day at Dh100 ($27.2) and welcomes golfers during its many events to enjoy a game at Dh200 ($54.45) including food and drinks. Other offers include a round of golf and a burger at QUBE Sports Bar for Dh295 ($80.32), as well as a system to encourage repeat custom by offering players vouchers for top TaylorMade merchandise each time they play.

James Leeman, the marketing manager at The Track, says: “Our mandate is to make the sport as accessible to as many people as possible, whether they reside here in Dubai or are here on holiday. Top quality golf at a great price is an ethos that underpins everything we do. We are a pay-and-play course, so everything is designed to appeal to the average golfer and to encourage people to give golf a go.

“Golf is generally considered to be an exclusive sport, but the popularity of our events has shown there is huge demand for top quality golf at an affordable price. Being a floodlit course enables us to stay open late, which is an enormous benefit at this time of year when it can be uncomfortable to play during the heat of the day. It means we can organise events in the evening, which is convenient for people. Playing golf can be fun and frustrating in equal measure. We try to make it as easy and enjoyable as we can - the rest is up to the individual golfer.”

The Track, which is managed by Troon, celebrated its first birthday in April 2013 by being named one of the best nine-hole courses in the world. Boasting a backdrop of Dubai’s cityscape including the iconic Burj Khalifa and located next to The Meydan Racecourse, The Track has been attracting a constant stream of customers – from beginners to professionals keen to play the Peter Harradine-designed nine-hole course. Dubai-based regulars eager to play a few holes after work are just as common a sight at The Track as holidaymakers and businesspeople on a flying visit to the emirates.

Customers can also enjoy quick and easy access to booking vacant tee times through the venue’s online booking system. An average round on the course takes a little over two hours.
