Hyatt names top execs

New Zealander Peter Fulton has been appointed as the new general manager of Grand Hyatt Dubai which is expected to open later this year.

Fulton started his career at the White Heron Travelodge in Christchurch in 1974 and has worked at the Claridges Hotel in London, the Le Beau Rivage Palace in Ouchy, Switzerland and in Scotland.

He joined the Hyatt Group at the Hyatt Kingsgate in Auckland and has since worked with the group's properties in Dubai, Australia, Macau, Mexico and India.

Meanwhile, Roddy Gordon has been appointed as the new marketing director of the new hotel.

Gordon did his schooling in Hazlehead, Scotland, where he was born and went on to gain a BA in hotel management from Robert Gordon's University in Aberdeen, Scotland. This was followed by a diploma in marketing from the Chartered institute of Marketing in the UK.

He was recruited from university to undergo operational training at the Hyatt Regency in Hong Kong, from where he was transferred to the Hyatt corporate office in Chicago. He was then promoted to marketing development manager Hyatt Asia Pacific.

In this position, he was responsible for managing the Asia Pacific marketing programmes for 33 hotels across the division.

He has also held senior positions at the Hyatt property in Birmingham. UK, before moving on to do brief stints at leading UK-based conference and incentive agency, The Marketing Organisation and later Wineworld plc.

He returned to the Hyatt in September 2000, when he was appointed director marketing - pre-opening at the Grand Hyatt, Dubai.

Gordon, 37, is married and lives with his wife and two small children in Dubai. His hobbies include rugby, golf and photography.
