According to the first World Tourism Barometer of the year, an estimated 1.52 billion international tourists were recorded globally in 2025, almost 60 million more than in 2024.

Tourists to Japan hit a record 42.7 million in 2025, exceeding 40 million for the first time, Japan’s Tourism Minister Yasushi Kaneko said. Total spending by inbound tourists also reached a record high of 9.5 trillion yen ($60 billion) over the year.
