Türkiye plans to become the world’s sixth-largest tourism revenue earner in 2027, supported by a proposed $244.5 million tourism budget under the draft central government budget for that year, Anadolu Agency reported.
The allocation represents an increase from $188.4 million in
2026 and supports the government’s Medium-Term Programme (MTP), which targets
tourism revenues of $70 billion in 2027, $73.5 billion in 2028 and $78.5
billion in 2029.
Türkiye recorded a record $65.2 billion in tourism revenue last
year.
However, its initial 2026 target of $68 billion was revised
down to $65 billion amid ongoing conflicts between Russia and Ukraine and in
the Middle East.
According to global tourism revenue data from the UN World
Tourism Organization, Türkiye is projected to rise from seventh place in 2026
to sixth in 2027.
If it achieves its revenue target, the country could climb
to fifth place in 2028.
Since 2017, Türkiye has improved its position in global
tourism revenue rankings from 15th to seventh, while climbing from eighth to
fourth in international tourist arrivals.
The government expects the country to maintain its
fourth-place ranking for tourist arrivals through 2029.
It also aims to improve its position in the World Economic
Forum’s Travel and Tourism Development Index, targeting 35th place in 2027,
34th in 2028 and 33rd in 2029.
The targets reflect Ankara’s broader ambition to strengthen
Türkiye’s position as a leading global tourism destination.
