Bahrain and Malaysia are set to strengthen their tourism and travel ties as Gulf Air prepares to launch direct flights to Kuala Lumpur ahead of the upcoming Formula 1 event at Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit.
The new route, scheduled to begin on September 29, 2026, will improve connectivity between the two countries while providing travellers and Formula 1 fans with greater access to the sporting event and Malaysia’s wider tourism offering.
Gulf Air, the national carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain and
Title Sponsor of the event, is using its involvement to bring Bahrain’s
hospitality and service closer to motorsport audiences in Malaysia. The direct
Kuala Lumpur service is also expected to support stronger tourism and travel
exchanges between Bahrain and Malaysia.
The upcoming Formula 1 event at Sepang is expected to
attract motorsport enthusiasts, racing professionals, international visitors
and media representatives, while providing an opportunity to promote Malaysia
as a destination for sports, leisure and cultural tourism.
Mohd Hatmin, Director of Tourism Malaysia, said:"We are
delighted to welcome the return of Formula 1 action to the iconic Sepang
International Circuit. This prestigious event presents an excellent opportunity
to further elevate Malaysia's profile as a premier travel destination among
international audiences. As motorsport continues to captivate fans around the
world, Sepang serves not only as a stage for world-class racing but also as a
gateway for visitors to experience Malaysia's rich culture, warm hospitality,
and diverse tourism offerings."
Located south of Kuala Lumpur, Sepang International Circuit
is known for its modern facilities, challenging track layout and history of
hosting major international motorsport events. Since opening in 1999, the
circuit has helped position Malaysia on the global motorsport map and continues
to attract racing fans from around the world.
For Bahraini and international travellers, the new Gulf Air
service is expected to create an easier gateway to Kuala Lumpur and the Sepang
region. Visitors attending the event will also be able to explore destinations
and attractions beyond the circuit, including Bagan Lalang Beach, known for its
sunsets and seafood restaurants, and Splash Mania Waterpark.
Travellers can also visit Mitsui Outlet Park KLIA Sepang,
located near Kuala Lumpur International Airport, while nature-focused visitors
can explore the Sepang Mangrove Forest and its eco-tourism and wildlife
experiences.
The region’s proximity to Kuala Lumpur will also allow
visitors to explore the Malaysian capital’s landmarks, cultural attractions and
culinary offerings.
The combination of Gulf Air’s new direct service and the
upcoming Formula 1 event is expected to support greater people-to-people
connectivity between Bahrain and Malaysia, while creating opportunities for
tourism, business and cultural exchanges.
As the event approaches, the partnership between Gulf Air and the Sepang Formula 1 programme highlights the growing links between Bahrain and Malaysia and the role of aviation and international sporting events in bringing the two markets closer together. -TradeArabia News Service
