ABU DHABI’S newly launched Aloft Hotel will produce more than 90 per cent of its hot water through energy harnessed from solar panels.
The 408-bedroom National Exhibitions Company (Adnec) hotel will be served by 560 solar panels, covering a total area of 2,300 sq m which have been installed on the roof of Adnec Car Park A.
The panels will heat water for the bedrooms, two production kitchens, food and beverage outlets, hotel offices and the swimming pool saving an estimated 870 mega watt hours of electricity every year.
Ali Bin Harmal, managing director of Adnec said: “In line with the Abu Dhabi government’s 2030 vision for sustainable economic development, we are following the environmental objectives of the emirate by diversifying our power requirements away from traditional energy sources.
“As the world’s most modern exhibition centre, we have a responsibility to lead from the front.
“This initiative, combined with other power saving programmes underway at Adnec reinforces our position as the Middle East’s leading venue.”
Last month, Adnec also introduced a major recycling programme to support the emirate’s recycling agenda.
Recycling stations were installed throughout the venue; one month into the programme Adnec was able to recycle almost 5,000 kg of paper, carton, magazine, plastic and aluminum can waste.
