A CENTENNIAL parade takes place in Jordan on October 9 to mark the centennial anniversary of the founding of the first municipal council, and to commemorate the 10th anniversary of His Majesty King Abdullah II’s accession to the throne.
Under the patronage of King Abdullah II and Queen Rania, organiser Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) starts the parade from the Roman Theater in downtown and end it at the GAM building in Ras Al Ain.
Omar Maani, GAM’s mayor, said that the centennial parade was one of the major activities to celebrate Amman and its people who built the city and witnessed its growth in line with the directives of the Hashemite leadership, adding that this has made Amman what it is today – a modern city proud of its heritage and striving towards being a safe and progressive capital.
Maani said that the parade will also highlight Amman’s historical significance over the past 8,000 years. Investment and tourism advisor to the mayor of Amman and parade manager, Khaled Burgan, said this will be ‘the biggest street event of its kind in the region’.
Thousands of people are expected to gather from 3 pm for three hours of fun and entertainment, while millions will have the opportunity to watch the live televised broadcast on Jordan Television.
The Parade will reflect 10 decades, each one represented by a decorated float, Khayaleh (horse mounted police) and Hajaneh (camel mounted soldiers), and many walking teams.
