Starwood plan to purchase Golden Tulip
Businesses of Golden Tulip Hospitality are set to be purchased by an affiliate of Starwood Capital Group Global after Starwood signed a binding agreement last month. Under the agreement, Groupe du Louvre will acquire Golden Tulip’s franchise business, development and representation businesses, joint venture interests, the brands, trademarks and intellectual property of Golden Tulip, Tulip Inn and related brands. By acquiring Golden Tulip, Starwood Capital’s hospitality arm will become the 11th largest hotel group in the world, as per MKG Hospitality’s world ranking 2009. Starwood said in a statement that the agreement was subject to the completion of certain formalities before its full closing transaction by July 27 this year.
Singapore hotels offer for F1 fans

Middle East visitors visiting Singapore for the 2009 Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix from September 25 to 27 can now book their hotels through a scheme guaranteeing a best rate offer at 28 hotels participating hotels. Race promoter Singapore GP has partnered with some of Singapore’s leading hotels to offer the scheme that promises to extend any last minute lower price deals to 'early bird' customers. Guests who choose to book early with participating hotels will not lose out should there be any last minute room price drops during the race weekend, and will be rewarded with the same discounts should these materialise.
A CHI first in Sharm El Sheikh
Malta based CHI Hotels & Resorts opened its newly built Tiran Hotel as part of the Corinthia Beach Resort Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt last month. The four-star property, situated in Montazah, is owned by Abdulhafiz Ali Mansouri’s Cyrene Tourism Investment Corporation of Egypt. It features 351 rooms and suites with sea and mountain views, two restaurants, including an Indian specialty restaurant, three bars, an extensive landscaped outdoor pool and children’s pool, a kid’s club, an amphitheatre, a business centre, an internet café and a spacious conference hall with adjoining syndicate rooms.
Siji sees increase in domestic tourists
Witnessing a 30 per cent increase in local tourist arrivals for the first half of 2009 compared to the same period last year, the five-star Al Diar Siji Hotel in Fujairah is fast becoming a favoured weekend getaway destination according to the hotel, managed by Abu Dhabi National Hotels. It created a nationality report that showed that from January to March, guest numbers from within the UAE rose to 14 per cent compared to the first quarter of 2008. The figure surged to 60 per cent during the second quarter of 2009 as compared to 2008 which pushed the domestic tourist arrivals to more than 30 per cent increase for the first half of the year over the same period last year.
