Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC) and Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) have revealed details of a new Summer in Abu Dhabi family festival, which has seven unique indoor island themes. Running until August 18, the inaugural event will transform the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre into a 13,000 sq m entertainment venue. The eight week spectacle will welcome visitors from all emirates, and organisers have tried to balance the entertainment and educational elements of the festival. There are themed segments of discovery, imagination, adventure, fun islands, creativity, action and heritage and culture.
Faisal Al Sheikh, head of ADTA Events section, said, “Summer in Abu Dhabi will redefine national and regional summer events; it will harmonise interactive exhibitions, theatre productions, mini-shows, workshops, and extreme sports to provide a uniquely segregated environment offering interesting intellectual and social activities.
“This summer programme has been designed by a team of international experts over the last 12 months to appeal to both the young and the old through an atmosphere of active and productive fun. These islands are just a glimpse of even bigger things in store for the event’s patrons.”
Discovery Island’s main attraction is the Robot Zoo, a 1,000 sq m interactive educational exhibition that will use animatronics to show how animals work.
Imagination Island will feature an inflatable cinema with a special beanbag seating area to watch TV episodes. It will also include a fully-animated tree which will deliver children’s stories in English and Arabic. The Island will also showcase a unique UV puppet theatre.
Fun Island will offer various traditional youth oriented activities such as a bungee trampoline, river and train rides, an inflatable play centre, a cups-and-saucers ride and ring and bucket tossing booths.
His Excellency Ahmad Humaid Al Mazrouie, ADNEC managing director said, “The Summer in Abu Dhabi festival is poised to become one of the most exciting family entertainment events held in the region; it will be unsurpassed in terms of entertainment value, novelty and excitement. A great deal of planning and effort has gone into finalising the concept for each of the themed Islands, the overriding objective being to provide eight weeks of high quality fun, entertainment and education for the entire family.”
The Creativity Island will showcase various creative talents, and the Action Island is segmented into different zones – urban, sports and a chill out zone. The urban area features skill demonstrations by freestyle BMX bikers, soccer players and DJs. The Culture Island has been planned in coordination with the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage to enhance knowledge about the UAE’s rich culture and heritage.
The event will be open from 12 pm to 9 pm daily. Tickets cost Dh30 for an adult and Dh20 for a child under 16 and all children must be accompanied by an adult. Visit www.summerinabudhabi.com for more information.
