More than two thousand years ago, the Romans with their thermal springs laid the foundation for Baden-Württemberg as a spa state. The combination of relaxing baths in hot spring water and physical care thus has a long-standing tradition. And the emphasis has always been on bringing body, mind and soul into one harmonious being.
The ‘Wellness Stars’ seal of quality in Baden-Württemberg is a guarantee for the high standard of quality in spa hotels, thermal baths and health institutes. More than 50 hotels, fourteen thermal baths and five medical wellness institutes have meanwhile joined the Wellness Stars initiative and submit themselves to strict testing.
With their services and treatments closely inspected by experts at regular intervals, it is the guests who benefit: at a glance, one knows what expectations can be met by one’s choice of resort. At the same time, one can be sure that independent of the number of stars awarded, all stand for checked quality.
The quality audits are conducted as annual mystery checks by trained and independent test people. Basically everything is put to the test: professional competence and friendliness of the personnel, location and equipment of the wellness section, quality of the fitness equipment and the fitness coaches, the services offered in the massage section and sauna, the variety and frequency of courses and consulting dates.
Being in the southwest of Germany, it goes without saying that eating and drinking well is of the essence, say the officials: the quality of the “health food” offered is one of the major features when it comes to providing a “wellness with a guarantee”.
There are any number of gourmet stars shining brightly promising gourmet delights of excellent quality. The southwest of Germany is a veritable pilgrimage spot for gourmets: be it Guide Michelin, Gault Millau or some other renowned restaurant guide – they all locate a solid one third of the top German restaurants in the southwest of the German republic in all of their surveys. And local cooking in the regions of Baden and Swabia also consistently earn praise: the ravioli-like Maultaschen or Spنtzle, the home-made pasta, perch from the Lake Constance called Bodenseefelchen or Black Forest gateau are all famous and loved far beyond the borders of the land and appreciated the world over.
