SEVERAL high-value business deals were negotiated between hotel chains and suppliers at the Hotel Show 2005 and at its sister interior supplies show, the Office Exhibition 2005, which were held in Dubai last month.

Dubai-based manufacturer of shades, blinds and shutters, Avenue Window Fashions, finalised two contracts, worth around Dh600,000 each, with companies in Oman. The Forest Group, a Dutch drapery hardware company, secured at least three orders worth nearly €45,000 (Dh208,000) with hotels and hotel suppliers in Jordan, Iran and Kuwait. Rashmi Tolentino-Singh of the Philippines-based furnishings and interior accessories company Lightworks said business was so successful she plans to organise a Philippines country pavilion at the Hotel Show 2006.
Meanwhile, the adjoining Office Exhibition 2005, Dubai’s fourth international trade fair, ended with plenty of promises for the local office furniture industry coming shoulder-to-shoulder with leading international manufacturers such as Al Shamsi, Sedus, Herman Miller, Bafco-The Office Furniture People, Juma Al Majid and Ersa.
Bernard Walsh, managing director, dmg world media Dubai, said, “The Office Exhibition provides a dynamic forum to meet trade buyers directly, recruit business partners and agents and network with the industry’s key players.”
“Since its inception four years ago, the Office Exhibition has grown in-line with the region. It attracts exhibitors and visitors from across the globe and the steady increase in trade visitors from Europe, Asia, North/South America and the GCC region year after year is both proof of its growing significance to this emerging market and the steadily increasing economic power of the region,” said project manager Paula Al Chami.
Both shows were larger and featured more exhibitors than previous instalments. The Hotel Show hosted 425 exhibitors from a record 41 countries including 11 national pavilions, an exhibitor increase of more than 40 per cent over last year, while the Office Exhibition nearly doubled last year’s floor space to 4,000 sq m.
