Zel Mallorca, a partnership between Meliá and Rafael Nadal

From an iconic five-star opening in Barcelona to swim-up rooms in Tenerife to the first Grand Hyatt in Spain, here’s our FITUR round-up to keep you up to date with some of the newly opened and refurbished hotels in Spain.

MELIÁ HOTELS INTERNATIONAL

In 2024, Meliá Hotels International’s expansion plans will see the opening of 20-plus hotels around the world and the signing of another 20 projects. Especially significant will be the growth of the luxury brand ME by Meliá, we learn.

Meliá Hotels International participation in FITUR 2024 focused on its youngest brand, Zel Hotels (the result of an alliance with Rafael Nadal), which had an extremely successful debut in Mallorca last summer, said a brand spokesperson. Zel Hotels will see the opening of a new hotel in Tossa del Mar (Girona) this year, with additional projects in Sayulita (Mexico), Madrid, and Punta Cana (Dominican Republic).

However, one of the most significant projects for Melia this year, is the recently opened Torre Melina Hotel, Gran Meliá in Barcelona, which reclaims one of the city’s most iconic five-star hotels, the former Hotel Juan Carlos I. Set in 25,000 square metres of beautiful gardens and offering fantastic views of Barcelona, Torre Melina is located on Diagonal Avenue and a 15 minute-walk from FC Barcelona Camp Nou stadium.

CORAL HOTELS

Coral Hotels is undergoing an ambitious re-conceptualisation of the Coral Compostela Beach Golf complex in Tenerife. Among the most notable innovations are the 16 exclusive swim-up flats, with private pool and furnished terrace. This unique product completely redefines the holiday experience in Tenerife, adapting to the needs and demands of the most discerning guests.

On the other hand, Coral California (also at Tenerife) has undergone a transformation project converting the roof into a chill-out terrace, offering a new space for guests to enjoy. At the same time, there has been an integral reform to its rooms, creating a modern and fresh atmosphere, a company statement said.

MARINA D’OR CIUDAD DE VACACIONES

One of the main tourist resorts in Spain, Marina D’or Ciudad De Vacaciones, presented a new project for the Marina d’Or resort town, recently acquired by Grupo Fuertes and Magic Costa Blanca. The aim is to invest in a more attractive model, diversifying the offer and improving the customer experience, together with tackling the challenge of internationalisation, to become one of the leading resorts in Europe. New developments unveiled at FITUR included unveiling of the theme of the hotels in the new Marina d’Or development.

In addition, the rest of the Magic Costa Blanca chain’s accommodation were also present, with special attention to the ‘Adventure’ family accommodation and the exclusive ‘Villas Gallery’ line of hotels.

HESPERIA WORLD

Hesperia World, manager of Grupo Inversor Hesperia, announced at FITUR 2024 the recently refurbished Hesperia Sevilla hotel. Hesperia World has properties in the main urban destinations of Spain and a wide variety of holiday resorts located in Lanzarote and Majorca, which are marketed under the Secrets and Dreams brands and have undergone complete refurbishments, and the recently reopened Grand Hyatt La Manga Club Golf & Spa, the first hotel to operate under this brand in Spain.

EVENIA HOTELS

The historic Coral Hotel in L’Estartit, Spain has undergone a complete transformation to become the Evenia Coral Boutique Hotel, ready to “once again become the hotel of reference in the north of the Costa Brava” says a spokesperson. The four-star boutique-style hotel in the heart of Costa Brava, in the beautiful coastal town of l’Estartit, is located in the centre of the village and just 400 metres from the main beach of l’Estartit, making it perfect for an unforgettable holiday as a couple or with friends.
