The Qatar National Hotels Company is wholly owned by the Government of Qatar and was established in 1993 (assuming liabilities of Qatar National Hotels Limited itself incorporated in 1970), to provide accommodation, restaurants, conference facilities, catering and banqueting facilities through its hotels, recreational and sporting outlets.
The strength is in its ownership of almost all of Qatar's high-profile leisure facilities. The subsidiaries include: The Ritz-Carlton Hotel, Doha; Sheraton Doha Hotel and Resort; Doha Marriott Gulf Hotel; Sealine Beach Resort, Doha Club and Palm Tree Island. In innovative steps towards a further future growth in the area of tourism, the Qatar National Hotels Company has unveiled five projects to upgrade its tourism capabilities, namely: •Redevelopment of Aladdin's Kingdom: Improvements planned are centred on an indoor family entertainment centre with video games and children's soft play area as well as enhanced food and beverage outlets. •Doha Golf Club Business Hotel: To be located in the tranquil, beautifully landscaped grounds adjacent to the already successful international standard golf course. •Al Ghariya Eco-Heritage resort: The definition of Eco-tourism is: "...purposeful travel to natural area to understand the culture and natural history of the environment taking care not to alter the integrity of the ecosystem, while producing economic opportunities that make the conservation of natural resources beneficial to local people". An opportunity has been identified by Qatar National Hotels Company to develop an "eco-resort" to tap into this market in Qatar. The site uniquely combines a beachfront, an authentic abandoned village and attractive landscape features, including rock formations and winter meadows. •Al Bida Park Festival Market: A comprehensive redevelopment of Al Bida Park to convert it into a marketplace. It will include mobile units, souq-style shops and branded outlets, food and beverage outlets. It will be an ideal place to spend leisure time. •Al Khor Hotel: To provide accommodation for tourists visiting northern Qatar. Al Khor lies within easy distance of both Ras Laffan Industrial City and Doha.
